Yes, my daughters are teens now. It is amazing how fast the time goes! And all of you who parent teens know that one of the hardest things about teens is getting them to bed, but it can be even harder getting them out of bed. Especially if they are homeschooled and do not have any pressure to get to school first thing in the morning.
So, sometimes we Moms just have to get creative and that is what I did recently on one of these mornings. I baked yummy chocolate chips muffins and thought that the smell will surely get them out from under the covers, but no. Nope! It was already nearly 9:00 AM and they were still snoozing.
Then, I got a fantastic idea. The great thing about teens is that they like to munch on goodies and they are very curious. So, I went into their bedroom, gave them a kiss and said "The porcupines are waiting for you." The older one opened her eyes and gave me "the face", the bewildered "What in the world are you talking about Mom?" expression.
But it worked. They were out of beds and in the kitchen in less than 5 minutes and then they laughed when they saw the muffins. "They really look like porcupines!"
I dropped some of the chocolate chips all around the dough before baking and after I took them out, the chocolate chips on top looked like the spikes on a porcupine. If Blogger allows me to add the photo( this function is not working very well of late), I will try to attach it to this post.
I must also add that the muffins are a healthy version, made with whole grain Red Fife Canadian Heritage flour, coconut sugar for sweetener and some rolled oats for good measure besides the usual 2 eggs, 1/4 cup of light olive oil and some natural vanilla extract. Try it yourself next time you have a hard time getting your teen out of bed. Success guaranteed!
